Appointments

Routine Appointments

All consultations are by appointment.  These can be booked in person or by phone during Health Centre opening hours which are Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm.  Appointments can be made for any member of the clinical staff.  An appointment can normally be offered within 48 hours but a longer delay may be required if an appointment with a specific doctor is requested.  There is also an evening surgery which runs from 6pm – 7.30pm twice monthly for people who work and cannot attend during the day. The surgery number is 01880 820 219.

Sometimes an appointment with the advanced nurse practitioner or healthcare assistant is more appropriate than with a doctor. It is helpful to provide the receptionist with some information about the nature of the problem to assist them to offer the best option.

Urgent Appointments

If you feel you need to be seen on the same day, either in the surgery or at home please phone the surgery as early in the day as possible. Daily “same day” appointments are available with the advanced nurse practitioner and daily urgent 5 minute appointments are available with doctors.

Medical Emergencies

In the event of an emergency, for example severe chest pain, collapse, suspected stroke, the best way to access urgent attention is by dialling 999 for an ambulance. 

Cancelling Appointments

If you are unable to attend for a booked appointment, please let the surgery know as soon as possible to allow this appointment to be given to someone else.

Telephone Consultations are available by appointment. To arrange this please phone and book a time at which the doctor will call you back. 

E Mail Contact

We are happy for patients to contact us by email: nhsh.tarbertmedicalpractice@nhs.scot if they wish to discuss an administrative or medical matter. Incoming emails are checked regularly throughout the working day but this is not a good method of communication for urgent matters.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 09:30 if you require a home visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Test Results

Please telephone after 1.30pm for test results, as the telephone is very busy in the morning.  Please note that results can only be given to the patient in person unless we have written consent from the patient to pass on information to someone else. 

It is the patient’s responsibility to obtain a result from the practice for any tests carried out.
